I asked politely if we could take a picture, but arrogant, as always, he didn’t respond and took off immediately to the van where his friends were waiting. We had no chance to grab our digital camera.

Now Leonardo followed me to Ibiza! I don’t like that. I want this Island only for happy people.

Another question that popped up in my mind. Is Leonardo diCaprio gay or bi? Not because he goes to Ibiza but I noticed that he is almost always with a couple of guys, and a girl to distract the press. He is never with the ‘girlfriend on paper’. I look more to acts than words. So isn’t this strange? His model ‘girlfriend’ Bar Refaeli has been in the South of France and Leonardo DiCaprio decided to take a holiday ‘alone’ (with the same guys) in Ibiza, Spain. Just like in Santorini, also without girlfriend.

Mr. Titanic spent the day in Ibiza lounging around a luxury yacht with a group of guys and one blonde - smoking cigarettes and taking in the sights with his binoculars.

What a life! I would love to spend a day or two on that yacht but without Leo. And I guess he would love to spend the complete year at the beaches in Ibiza, which I do and he doesn’t.

Anyway, if you see him, don’t ask for a picture. Just take it and send it to us. We have a present waiting for you.

A quick checklist what you need:

• Valid drivers license
• Credit Card (Some companies like AVIS doesn’t accept debit cards)
• Get a good map of the island. (Autobravo has one for free)

Tips to rent a car in Ibiza:

• Inquire about 24-hour roadside assistance; some car rental agencies provide the assistance.
• Some companies will pick you up and take you to the car. Ask about pick-up service.
• Although most rental companies will try to sell you insurance, your own car insurance may cover a rental car while you are driving it. Ask your auto insurance agent before renting a car and paying for unnecessary insurance. If you don’t have car insurance, however, it is probably wise to pay the extra cost.
• Drive on the right side ;-)
• Be aware that you are driving in a foreign country.
• Drive safe and alcohol free. Especially late at night when the police controls the roads to the clubs.
• Check if the car has air conditioning.
• Before you go, check the car outside for scratches. Make sure to mark them on the document.
• Don’t crash your car. Drive safe like you normally do.
• Prepare your trips.
• Take your navigator with you!

Which car should I hire?

Think about the purpose of your trips.

• Standard car: If you want to make comfortable trips around the Island
• Jeep / Terrain / Land cruiser. If you want to go off-road.
• Luxury cars/ limousines: Just cruising .

A cabriolet seems nice. But it can be very uncomfortable with the wind and the sun burning on your head. Our tips if you are going “off road”.

• Keep on the dusty roads (don’t drive through untouched nature)
• Respect the nature
• Coto privado means: private property!
• Take a big bottle of mineral water with you.
• Take a cap and sun lotion with a high factor for a good protection. Watch your back and neck.
• Limit your speed. You will never know what breath taking cliff you will find.

NIGHT MARKET
On Monday nights, a smaller more relaxed version of the classic market takes place. Some 110 stalls, selected for their quality, comprise the layout. Aside from shopping, there’s the possibility of enjoying the Teatent, the fruit-juice bar, or the restaurant, on this occasion, set up under the vines of the garden to allow eating under the stars.
Aside from the food, there is live music, usually in acoustic format, that often includes surprises like world-class musicians, friends of the house, that may appear with no previous notice. There is also an exhibition of Didjeridoos and Clowns during different moments of the evening.

CHRISTMAS MARKET
Also at Christmas, the visitor can obtain a taste of Las Dalias by it’s Christmas Market.
From around the 12th of December, the hall, gallery & Restaurant are dressed in Christmas colours and approximately 50 stalls offer the spirit of the more alternative Ibiza. Clothing, accessories, décor, antiques, exotic articles or crafts, all comprise a diverse display of shopping possibilities. The atmosphere extends to the food and beverage part of the market as well. In the hall bar, the traditional Glüewein, warm wine with spices in the German tradition, is the star offer of the bar.
In the restaurant, there are traditional dishes for the season, as well as the usual exotic fare the restaurant is known for. On occasion, there is live music in the restaurant by great island talents in duo or trio format.
The market closes on the 24th of December and the smaller “Reyes” or “Kings” market opens on the 27th till the 5th of January

The smallest of the three major Balearic islands, Ibiza was first discovered in 654 BC by the Phoenicians who named it ‘Ibossim’, meaning ‘island of pines’. Away from the tourist areas, many parts of Ibiza are World Heritage sites and their picturesque scenery is popular for filming and photo shoots.

Ibiza is often called the White Island  or “la Isla Blanca”. It has amazing cove beaches, high towering cliffs, densely covered with pine trees, offer the perfect place to spend your holidays. The islands capital Ibiza-Town - Eivissa Vila in Catalan is one of Europe’s oldest towns,and was founded by the Carthaginians and grew into an important fortress until it many hundreds years later became the capital of the Pituses - Pine-islands (named by the Greeks) - formed by Ibiza and Formentera. Ibiza has  5 municipalities:

1. Sant Josep de sa Talaia,
2. Santa Eularia des Riu,
3. Sant Antoni de Portmany,
4. Sant Joan de Labritja and
5. Eivissa-Ibiza,

All have their own specific charm which reflect their own peculiarities.

The island has a strong hippy background, dating back to the 1930s when many liberals escaped to Ibiza as a result of General Franco’s fascist rule. In the 1960s, Ibiza became a mecca for hippies as hoards of them swarmed to the island, attracted to its bohemian culture.

Although the club scene briefly took over as Ibiza’s identity in the late 1990s, its hippy roots are now re-emerging with a new ‘hippy chic’ breed of tourism - with the elite seeking a part of the barefooted, kaftan-wearing, yoga-practising lifestyle. The hippy movement is still evident on the island, with two major open-air hippy markets taking place every week at Es Cana and Las Dalias, along with Sunday evening bongo sessions on Benirras beach.

In the late 1990s, Ibiza gained a notorious reputation from the fly-on-the-wall Sky TV show ‘Ibiza Uncovered’, which depicted the hedonistic clubbing scene of drunken shirtless Brits waving cans of lager. Although the club scene is still an important and thriving part of Ibiza tourism, this is only part of what the island has to offer. Tourism in Ibiza has now given way to a more upmarket breed of tourist and is fast becoming the playground of the rich and beautiful – in fact, it has often been referred to as ‘the new St Tropez’. Luxury villas and multi-million pound yachts, belonging to the so-called ‘wet set’, are changing the face of Ibiza to capitalise on its bohemian vibe, with yoga retreats and 5-star minimalist hotels.

From September onwards, the tourist season dwindles considerably, most of the big clubs close down for the winter and the island becomes an altogether quieter and different island.

8. The famous Egg monument in San Antonio represents its claim as the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, containing a model of his ship, the Santa Maria.
9. According to 2005 statistics from the Balearic Institute, just over half of Ibiza’s population were not born on the island.
